INVITATION (Liz)

As we prepare to celebrate communion, please gather something to eat and something to drink. If you are gathered on Zoom and are already in gallery view I encourage you to switch to that so you can see one another. If you're in the sanctuary and haven't picked up a communicate, please go and get one. Now and when we get to the words of institution, I will invite you. I invite you to raise your bread and cup as Pastor Brenda raises her bread and cup. This is our time of communion and we all belong here. It doesn't matter if you're male or female. None binary. It doesn't matter if you are old or young. It doesn't matter if you're rich or poor. When Jesus instituted the sacrament, he said that whenever two or three of you are gathered and share this meal, you do so in remembrance of him. So we now share this meal that Jesus instituted with his closest followers the night He was betrayed and has come down to us through the millennia. As always, it is Jesus who calls us to this meal. And because He calls us, we are welcome here. We come because we have been invited. The Spirit food and strengthened by these elements that help us to remember that we are followers of Jesus and that we can all share His teachings into the world. So let's go into this week taking what we have learned here into the world.

PRAYER (Liz)

Now let's lift up our hearts in prayer. Creator God, we give you thanks for all the gifts you have given us. We know that we have more than enough. Thank you for all the women those named and unnamed who taught Jesus's teachings at the beginning of his church. We know that Jesus often turned things upside down, and having women leaders was one of those. We know that he taught that you love us all, no matter who we are. Thank you for Jesus's disciples both men and women who took his teachings into the world. May this communion remind us that we are his teachers too. Even though we are taking part in this community on through and in person. And we can all give you Thanks, loving God for the bread and cup or whatever you using for communion today. Jesus did this at different times and places and with different people. He did this with the multitudes using a few loaves of bread and a few fish. He did this with his closest followers the night he was betrayed with what he had on the table. Even though we are not in one place, we are all at one table and we can still be one in Christ. Amen.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION (Brenda)

PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING (Brenda)

Almighty God, we give you thanks for the gift of our Savior’s presence in the simplicity and splendor of this holy meal. Unite us with all who are fed by Christ’s life and grace that we may faithfully proclaim the good news of your love and that your universal church may be a rainbow of hope in an uncertain world. This we pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Redeemer. Amen.
