Suzie Claxton
Morning. Hi. Today I'm going to bring you a, call to action. Putting faith into action on the climate. And this is a call to action from the United Church of Christ. And, this little slide here is too difficult. Too small for you to read. Perhaps. So I just want to read this paragraph. For many, the call to address the climate crisis and the crisis of inequality intertwined with it are rooted in love.
Love of children, love of neighbors, love of all. God's creation. Today, a growing number are responding to the prophetic call to act. The body of Christ has many parts, but in answering this call, we are realizing a desperately needed potential that cannot be realized alone but can only be realized as a collective body moving together with a shared vision and purpose.
So in 2023, we as a church body here, participated in a, climate Hope campaign, with some postcards, postcards that we signed and we sent in to the church, you know, in church. And 8000 postcards were collected and sent to the Environmental Protection Agency as part of a successful effort to move our country toward greater public health and carbon free electricity in 2035.
In 2024, we had a postcard campaign early in the year to, encourage everybody to vote. They were called, climate vote. Climate pledge cards. Hope no, I'm sorry, climate hope voter pledge card. So we just are asking people to vote. And, a 12 year old climate activist actually took that message directly to senators and representatives in DC.
So that was a great opportunity for a young person. So now in 2025, congregations are registering to visit the district offices of Congress members on Valentine's Day. After the hubbub of January. We will get through it. On Valentine's Day, the green team is, trying to get appointments to meet with our local Congress. Quite a few of us live in, Representative Swalwell district.
However, some of us, live in brokenness district. And we need, somebody to help us contact O'Connor's office. I don't live in his district, so I shouldn't be the one to contact him, but. So talk to me if you can help us out with just contacting his office about getting an appointment. Close to Valentine's Day.
And, we've already registered our church to participate, so, we got to do it now. So we're going to have some kind of card. I'm not sure if, UCC is providing cards, or maybe we'll make our own. And we will ask you to sign them in January. Get ready for this. Maybe in the first week of February.
Get ready so we can deliver some climate hope cards. For Valentine's Day with that Valentine, theme of love.
I hope you'll join us. Thank you.
