Our Communion Elders are lay members of the church who have received special training to prepare them to officiate at the communion table.  Generally, they co-officiate with one of our pastors, but on some occasions they lead communion by themselves.

The communion liturgy we currently use has five elements:  an invitation to communion (everyone is welcome at Christ’s table); the communion prayer (that begins with the sursum corda, might include a sanctus, and concludes with the Lord’s Prayer); the words of institution; sharing the elements; and a prayer of thanksgiving.
