Our Logo

What most people first notice about our logo are the three birds in flight. The represent our desire for our faith to take flight in our lives, not simply be something static. Notice that the birds aren’t all going the same direction. The same in true in this church, the way faith takes flight varies from person to person.

Most people assume the birds are doves. This is wonderful because doves are an important symbol of God’s Holy Spirit, peace, and hope for the future.

You may also notice a path winding up over some hills (the wings of the doves). This is an important symbol for us because faith is a journey. The specifics of what you believe are not as important as how your faith moves you forward in your life and your relationships with God and neighbor. Like our faith journeys, the path goes up over the hills into an unknown future.

We are united in God’s love for everyone’s journey … no exceptions! Come journey with us.

Niles Discovery Church is part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ.
The United Church of Christ and the Disciples of Christ have a strong history of cooperation, including jointly appointing
all overseas missionaries. This symbol celebrates that partnership. The chalice (on the left) is the symbol of the Disciples of Christ. The cross and orb are the symbol of the United Church of Christ.

In 2005, the United Church of Christ launched an identity campaign. This campaign was based on some advice Gracie Allen gave her husband George Burns just before she died: never place a period where God has placed a comma. As a church that believes that God is still speaking, we occasionally use the comma as a reminder. This rainbow comma celebrates the fact that we have heard the still speaking God calling us to be an Open and Affirming congregation. You can learn more about the Still Speaking campaign here.
