About the Clean Start Mobile Hygiene Unit

For someone experiencing homelessness, keeping yourself and your clothes clean can be incredibly challenging, and can greatly impact your ability to get and keep a job, or simply participate in society. To meet this need, the City of Fremont, City of Newark, and several community partners developed the Clean Start Mobile Hygiene Program to provide much-needed shower and laundry services to our homeless neighbors.

This program is self contained and needs volunteers to help check in the people who come to use the services. To volunteer to assist the Mobile Hygiene Unit, please send an email to SpecialProjects@cityserve.org to be added to their volunteer list. The City Serve coordinator will respond with instructions on how to schedule time to help with this program. The Mobile Hygiene Unit is scheduled to be at Niles Discovery Church on Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

The Mobile Hygiene Unit has two shower stalls (one ADA compliant) and three washer/dryer units. It provides showers and laundry service for those who do not have access to such amenities. We are one of several hosts for this program, so for those who wish to use these services, please call 510-574-2222 to see when and where the Mobile Hygiene Unit will be.
