Daytime Women’s Fellowship

The Daytime Women’s Fellowship Group meets in the third Monday of the month, September through June, at 11:30.  We meet in the church social hall.  A typical meeting includes a Bible Study led by one of our pastors, fellowship over brown bag lunches, and a program.  We usually disburse around 1:30.  Some of our special events are a Christmas party at our December meeting and a hotdog barbeque at the June meeting.  While it’s called a “Women’s Fellowship Group,” men are welcome, too.

Evening Women’s Fellowship

The Evening Women’s Fellowship Group meets the second Wednesday of the month, September to May (but no meeting in December) at 7:00 p.m. at the homes of them members. The meeting consists of business, study, and fellowship.  Typically, Dorletta Larsen opens the meeting with a reading usually of spiritual context that women can relate to.  The business is primarily related to Mission Springs Retreat (held at Mission Springs Retreat in Santa Cruz Mountains the third weekend of September), the Christmas celebration (held as a tea the last few years but previously a homemade gift exchange), the Spring Women's Gathering (held the second Saturday in March at various DOC churches), and the spring luncheon (held the Saturday before Mother's Day in May).

The study is led by various members of the group and for the past two years has been based on New Day for Christians, a publication from Christian Board of Publication.  2011-2012 topics have included Hunger, Hope, Children, Mission, Change, and Giving.  The study is followed by dessert, served by the hostess, and general fellowship of the women – an opportunity to get to know each other better and genuinely shares concerns.

Lap Rope Tying Group

Officially know as the Mildred Reynolds Group, named for a missionary to either China or India who may have had some connection to First Christian Church, one of our predecessor congregations.  The group was started by Dorothea Darnell many years ago using material from used clothing and sewing scraps to make lap robes which were donated to convalescent homes in the Fremont area.

Currently the lap robe tops are primarily made by Girven Hunter and Judy Molander and backed by Alison Kieft. The group meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month, January through October, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to tie the lap robes, have lunch provided by members on a sign up basis.  Significantly over a thousand lap robes have been donated during the life of the group.  In 2011, about 50 were made.
